Mabelle Archer

Mrs. Mabelle Williams Archer was born June 19, 1920 and departed this earthly life on April 24, 2021. She was the oldest child of the late John David Williams and the late Cherry Vann Williams-Alexander. Siblings who preceded her in death were Calvin Williams, Carlessie Williams, Joe Williams and Dorothy W. Jordan. Mabelle was the widow of the late Elbert "Possie" Archer who passed in October 2009. That union lovingly lasted for sixty-eight years. Her roots were Winton, in the area of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. As a child, she was educated at home and attended The Cotton School. In that area, she spent joyous times with her childhood and lifelong friends; Mattie Vann, Nancy Ella Vann Gatling, and Beatrice Jordan Pruden. All who preceded her in passing. However, she laughed heartily when she shared with her daughters about the fun they had. For example: She and Beatrice married and moved to the big town of Winton. Nancy Ella married and moved to Mapleton. This left Mattie behind. so she and Beatrice would ride their bicycles to Mount Moriah area to visit their friend Mattie. Mrs. Archer was a devoted housewife who cherished her marriage and nourished her three daughters. She was an active parent volunteer with Hertford County School System, chaperoning events that her daughters were involved in. Her passions were sewing, cooking, and gardening. She truly had a green thumb with that garden of hers. She had the best homegrown vegetables of all times. Relatives would come home from the city and pack up their car trucks. Mabelle joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church as a young child. As years passed, she played an active role in several axillaries: missionary, deaconess and usher board. These were an inspiring part of her life until her health declined about five years ago. She was presented with a plaque from the church in 2016. It proclaimed her church service and attendance as the oldest active member. Outside of church participation, she was also a member of the Go-Go Club organized through the Hertford County Citizen's Association.
