Mrs. Pearl Odessie Weaver

Pearl Odessie Weaver was born to the late David and Lucy Riddick on May 14, 1938 in Murfreesboro, NC. She graduated from CS Brown High School in 1959. Upon graduation she went to pursue her passion in cosmetology at New York’s Apex Beauty college in Harlem, graduating in 1960. She married the love of her life, Chester Weaver, her high school sweet heart, and moved to Newport News, Va. She was employed at Shelton’s Beauty Salon (1960-1963). She went on to further her profession at Pastor Pearl Coleman’s Beauty Salon, from 1963-1969. In 1970 she opened her own business, “Weavers Beauty Salon”. Pearl retired in 2014. She volunteered for over fifty years at Riverside Nursing Home. She was actively involved in the Newport News Vicinity Chapter of Beauticians, the Virginia State Beautician’s Association, The National Beautician Culture League, Inc, Youth for Beauty, and the Hundred Dollar Club. She was selected second place runner-up for the twenty five queen contest. Pearl loved to travel and visited many states and countries abroad. Everyone that knew her would know that she was an excellent cook. She was famous for her Sweet Potato Jacks and Banana Pudding. You could easily win Pearls’ heart over by bringing her some of her favorite fruits and nuts. She loved to be active and was an avid bowler, sewer, golfer,loved flowers and most importantly to be a loving mother, wife and grandmother. Pearl was soft-spoken, loving and had a good sense of humor and was a fashion guru. She had a strong right hand and was a lucky lady. She was a devout Christian woman of God and was a loved member at First Church of Newport News. She later became a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Pearl and Chester were married 59 years. Out of this loving union, she leaves to cherish her memory, two children William Weaver of Newport News Va and Gail Moore of Stafford VA. She was an admirable grandmother who is survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; her loving siblings, William Riddick ( Joyce) of Murfreesburo NC, Jean Stewart (Golden) of Newport News VA, Mary Spriggs of Hampton VA, Shirley Riddick of Norfolk VA, Joyce Daye of Maryland; her sister in law Linda Weaver of Ahoskie NC; brothers-in-law, Roger Weaver of Compton CA, Lawrence Weaver of Hampton VA, and Jesse Lee Weaver of Mapleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends; and best friends Betty Crowley and Shirley Bethay. Pearl is truly missed and we will always honor her memory and celebrate her life.
