Henry J. Alston was born on June 28, 1961, to the late Herbert Alston Jr and Annie Ruth Smith in Halifax County, North Carolina. At the age of 6 months, he moved to Northampton County where he was raised and loved by the late Robert E. Lee Sr and Alice F. Lee. He departed this life on December 6, 2021. Henry attended the public schools of Northampton County and graduated from Northampton County High School- East in Conway, North Carolina. At an early age, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ; he loved his church, Severn First Baptist, and his church family. Anyone who knew or met Henry was always greeted with a smile on his face, he never met a stranger. His conversations always somehow included something about his beloved New York Giants. He was a die-hard Giants fan whether they won, lost, or tied. Henry participated in several organizations: Numerous gospel workshops throughout North Carolina and Virginia, The Special Olympics, Relay for Life, Severn Reunion, and the American Red Cross. He was preceded in death by his mothers and fathers, Herbert Alston Jr, Annie Ruth Smith, Robert E. Lee Sr, Alice F. Lee Edwards; 3 brothers, Freddie Hardy, James P. Hardy, Herbert Smith; and sister Dr. Ola H. Gathers. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family. He leaves to cherish his memories: His Caregiver/Niece; Alice R. Woods of the home; 3 sisters; Mamie Lewis (Kenneth), Orlando FL, Lillian Kindred, Severn, NC, and Sharon Lee, Rocky Mount, NC; brother Robert E. Lee Jr, Asheville, NC. 2 devoted nephews, 1 devoted great-niece; Raiford D. Smith, Travis Mabry and Alicia Mabry; 3 best friends; Gwendolyn Joyner Wilson, Dwight Ricks, and Steve Joyner, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
