A Life Worth Celebrating: With grateful hearts and loving remembrance, we celebrate the life and legacy of Chester Weaver, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, faithful friend, and a man whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and light to all who knew him. Early Life & Cherished Beginnings: Chester Weaver was born on March 1, 1940, in Winton, North Carolina, to the late William and Claudia Weaver. Chester had a twin brother, who preceded him in death. From the very beginning, Chester*s life was a precious gift. He was known for his adventurous spirit, his unforgettable laugh, and a kindness that could be felt by everyone around him. He lived fully, loved deeply, and brought joy wherever he went. A Passion For Golf: As a young man, Chester discovered his lifelong passion for golf while working as a caddy. What began as a humble introduction blossomed into a remarkable pursuit, leading him to compete in semi-professional golf tournaments and travel to some of the most distinguished courses across the country. Along the way, he had the unique opportunity to meet notable figures such as Jim Brown, Flip Wilson, Clifton Davis, Lawrence Taylor, and Tim Reid. Chester was not only a player but a teacher at heart, he eagerly shared his love for the game, encouraging family and friends to learn, practice, and enjoy golf just as he did. His passion was even recognized in the Daily Press in an article titled *Young Blacks Now Turned On to Golf,* a testament to his influence and pride in the sport. Dedication & Career: Chester graduated from C.S. Brown High School in 1959 and soon after began a remarkable 43-year career at Newport News Shipyard, where he worked faithfully as a crane operator in the X42 department. His dedication, discipline, and strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. A Gift Behind the Lens: Never one to stop growing, Chester later discovered a passion for photography. He pursued this interest at Thomas Nelson Community College, where he refined his craft and turned it into a meaningful profession. Through his lens, Chester captured life*s most treasured moments; weddings, retirements, and countless celebrations, preserving memories that families will cherish for generations. He was also selected to photograph a civil rights march, and his work was featured in the newspaper, an honor that reflected his skill and the importance of the moment. The Roadrunner: Love for Travel & Adventure : Affectionately known as *The Roadrunner,* Chester had an adventurous spirit and a love for the open road. He found joy in traveling and exploring new places both across the country and around the world, always eager to see what lay beyond the horizon. One of his most memorable journeys was a cross-country drive from Virginia to California with his cousin Fred Weaver, a trip completed in just two days. Chester was the family*s trusted navigator, the one everyone relied on for directions. Long before GPS systems existed, he could guide you almost anywhere, knowing the best routes and shortcuts like the back of his hand. A Love for Fine Cars: He also had a deep appreciation for cars, especially luxury vehicles, often treating himself to a new car every year or two. Whether cruising down the highway in one of his cars or enjoying a ride on his motorcycle, Chester loved to experience the road. He believed life was meant to be enjoyed along the way, and he never waited for retirement to start living. Instead, he embraced every season of life fully, making memories, traveling, and enjoying the moments that mattered most. A Taste for Life: Chester delighted in life*s comforts as well, especially good food. He loved soul food, a classic Whopper from Burger King, meals from Rally*s, and favorites like potatoes, potato jacks, blueberry pancakes, Cracker Barrel, and milkshakes. These simple pleasures brought him happiness and often became moments shared with loved ones. Faith & Devotion: A man of faith, Chester believed in God and carried that faith throughout his life. Raised in a Christian home, he remained grounded in his beliefs and found comfort in scripture, gospel music, and fellowship. He was a devoted member of Goodwill Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia. One year, he asked for a new King James Version Bible with large print so that he could read the Word more clearly and spend even more time in scripture. He also thought of himself as a bit of a practicing doctor, he genuinely enjoyed pulling out his medical equipment and blood pressure cuff to check on the health of his family and friends, always showing his care and concern for their well-being. A Love That Lasted a Lifetime: Chester was united in marriage to the love of his life and high school sweetheart, the late Pearl Weaver, with whom he shared 59 beautiful years. Their union was one of love, partnership, and devotion. Together, they built a life rich in memories, often traveling and enjoying cruises side by side. From this loving marriage, he leaves to cherish his legacy his children, William Weaver and Gail Moore of Newport News, Virginia. A Heart for People: Known affectionately as *Uncle Tato,* Chester was the heart of every gathering. His home was a place of warmth, laughter, and welcome. He loved hosting family and friends, watching sports of all kinds; football, basketball, golf, and especially WWE. With his kind spirit, easy humor, and gift for conversation, Chester could walk into any room, make everyone feel like family, and keep a conversation going on just about any topic. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and gave of himself in ways that made others feel supported, valued, and cared for. A Life Well Lived: Chester Weaver lived a rich and meaningful life*one filled with joy, adventure, and deep love. He didn't merely pass through this world; he left it brighter than he found it. His adventurous spirit and the many accomplishments along his journey continue to inspire others: to put God first, to live fully in the present, to pursue what brings you joy without delay, and to never take time for granted. He believed in laughing often, savoring good food, and cherishing moments with friends and family. Chester*s life was a beautiful journey, one that touched many hearts and will never be forgotten. With Love in our hearts, we celebrate you , now and always. *Well done, good and faithful servant.* Family & Legacy: He leaves to cherish his memory his children, William Weaver and Gail Moore; one sister, Linda Weaver of Ahoskie, North Carolina; one brother, Roger Weaver of Los Angeles, California; sisters-in-law Jean Stewart of Newport News, Virginia, and Joyce Daye of Maryland; brothers-in-law Golden Stewart of Newport News, Virginia, and William and Joyce Riddick of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, lifelong dear friends, Randolph and Dora Vaughan of Boston, Massachusetts, extended family, and dear friends who loved him deeply and will miss him profoundly.
