Rosa Lee Lamb

On May 11, 1928, Rosa Lee Lamb was born to the late Ben Rutherford and Willie Cross in Whaleyville, Virginia and transitioned into eternal rest on August 23, 2022. On March 11, 1949 Rosa was joined in holy matrimony to Walter Raleigh Lamb Sr. and to this union five children were born. Rosa was a homemaker, worked as a piece worker making wallets in NY, did domestic work and helped her husband (Raleigh) lay water lines in Gates County. She also worked as a farm laborer and always had the highest amount of cotton picked. She also baled hay, chopped grass out of peanuts, corn, watermelon patches and slopped the hogs. She loved to sew and made a quilt for each of her children by hand. She also loved shopping and cooking. Her family and many church members cherished having her delicious coconut cake. She loved listening to spiritual music, believed in family unity and deeply loved her family. Rosa also loved her animals. She had a pet pig named "Babe pig", a pet raccoon name "Shine Eye" and most of all, her cat "Trixie" who kept her company and entertained. Rosa joined New Middle Swamp Baptist Church in 1950 as well as attended Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church with her husband. She was a Deaconess, on the Usher Board and Pastors Aid Auxiliary in both churches. She served as Treasurer of the Senior Board at Zion Tabernacle and Treasurer of the Deaconess Board at New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a Missionary member and was a Women's Day Captain for years at New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church. Rosa was also a member of the Senior Citizen Club of Gates County. She had numerous awards and accomplishments. A few of them are: The Faithful Service Awards at Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church and many years of Certification of Appreciation for Outstanding Service at New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church. Those that preceded her in death are Walter Raleigh Lamb, husband, Charles Lamb, son, Louise Grant, Suffolk, VA, sister, Lee Vernon Ralph, Hampton, VA, sister, Dorothy Riddick, Corapeake, sister, Thomas Cross, Suffolk, VA, brother and Jevon Jackson, Ft. Washington, MD, granddaughter. She leaves to cherish her memory one son Walter Raleigh Lamb Jr. (Vera) of Chesapeake, VA; three daughters, Claretta Jackson (Ballard), Mary "Honey" Lamb-Bowman (James) both of Ft. Washington, MD, and Gloria Lamb Woodfork (Gerald) of Washington, DC.; four grandchildren, Charles Anthony Lamb of Corapeake, NC, Donald Lamb of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Sean Lamb of Brooklyn, NY, LaTanya Jackson Cole (Nelson) of Brandywine, MD; daughter-in-law, Erma Riddick of Corapeake, NC; sister-in-law, Kathrine Lamb Riddick of Brooklyn, NY and Bernice Wiggins (Linerson) of Gates, NC, Ida Rountree, Gates, NC aunts; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Rosa Lee Lamb was a caring, kind, loving and a loyal woman to her family and friends.
