VaShaun Tremaine Smith Jr.

VaShaun Tremaine Smith Jr., affectionately called "Boodie" was born on October 30, 2002, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, North Carolina. VaShaun is the beloved son of Malcolm and Shannon Harrell of Hertford County and VaShaun and La Toya Smith, Sr. of Gates County. VaShaun was a senior at Hertford County High School, on track to graduate this year (Spring 2021). He was employed at Academy Community Child Development Center as a mentor, and a former Assistant Junior Varsity Coach at Ridgecroft School in Ahoskie, North Carolina. VaShaun was a Musician and Drummer at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. He excelled academically, and in extra-curricular activities as well. He was an all-star athlete playing Basketball, Football, and Track. He was inducted into the National BETA Club, a member of FBLA, and a Career & College Promise Certified Nursing Assistant Student. VaShaun had a zeal for life and inspired every person he came into contact with. He was special, a self-taught Diesel Mechanic for Harrell and Son Trucking (mentored by Rodney Moore), and an Honor student at Hertford County High School, and enjoyed repairing his own car. He had an understanding of the unconditional love he received from his family and the way he was embraced by the Hertford County Community. He had a profound love and admiration for his sister Baebae. VaShaun leaves to cherish his fond memories: his parents, Malcolm and Shannon Harrell, and VaShaun and LaToya Smith Sr.; godparents, Deric and Tameisha Pitt; grandparents, Annie Bell (Nana), Ricky Cooper Sr., Ann Bell, Ronald & Melissa Kirkland, Charles & Patricia Johnson, and Sylvia Anthony; was cared for by Helen Fleetwood and Martha Taylor in Daycare; siblings, Camille (Baebae) Harrell, Makayla Waller, India Smith, Shamil Chappel, Jaemarion Harrell, and Destiny Harrell; special brothers, Kyree, Jyree, and Tyree Pitt, Keondre Perry, Tye Saxby, Greg Carter Jr., Devin Nixon, Derick Gerard, and Anthony Staten; aunts, Cassandra Bell, Brittany Bell, Alexis (Keith) Byrd, Tashonda Cooper, Ashley Williams, Tina Watford, Linda Cooper, Carlotta Tyner, Cynithia Chappel, Sharon Chappel, Phyllis Madric, Kenya Madric, Kendria Madric, Hanna Tyler, Shirley and Kathy Bell.
